Chicago Laminate Flooring Installation
The popularity of laminate flooring has risen dramatically over the past decade. Laminates are a favorite among homeowners because they are low maintenance, affordable, and come in a broad range of styles and designs. Today’s laminates can even replicate the appearance of exotic hardwoods, tile, and stone. We are proud to offer Chicago and the surrounding area the latest laminate flooring products and quality installation services.
What is Laminate Flooring?
Laminate flooring is a synthetic flooring comprised of multiple layers that are fused together. The top layer protects the laminate from wear and scratches. This is followed by a design layer, which is actually a photographic image of stone, wood, or ceramic. An inner core layer provides stability and helps keep the laminate flat. The final layer is a backing to prevent warping.
What are the Advantages of Laminate Flooring in Chicago?
Most laminates are durable and easy to maintain. Most are stain resistant and don’t require waxing or varnishing. Laminates are a good choice for active families with pets and small children.
Since laminate flooring is manufactured using a relatively standardized manufacturing process, there isn’t much difference in price between the various styles. Higher-end laminates that simulate exotic woods or have textures can be more expensive. Even high-end laminates typically cost a fraction of natural wood flooring.
Laminate flooring makes environmental sense since the process utilizes recycled materials that would usually end up in a landfill.
Laminate Flooring Installation
Our Chicago laminate flooring experts will install your flooring using a “floating floor” system. They will place a padded underlayment between your subfloor and the flooring planks. Unlike traditional hardwood flooring, the laminate planks sit directly on top of the underlayment and are anchored at the edges instead of the subfloor. Some laminates use glue to secure the planks together. Others simply lock together and don’t require the use of adhesives.
You will probably notice a slight give and a hollow sound when walking on your laminate floor. You may also see small peaks or ridges between the planks. This is normal and doesn’t indicate a defect in the product or installation.
